I have a new pet peeve with online shopping. You place your order online, and then you get an email from the site saying you need to call in to complete the order. There is no real reason to have you call in, such as an unclear delivery address, or problem with payment info, or anything like that. They just want one more chance to upsell you.
What happens if the email from the online store instructing you to call in ends up in your junk mail folder? This happened to me, but I happened to notice it.
This trick has happened twice to me this week. Both were very hard sale tactics once I called in. They asked which upgraded battery I wanted with my camera, the 4-hour or the 2-hour? They didn't even want to mention the added cost. I said "Why would I pick the 2-hour?", and that's when the added cost came into the picture.
He also tried to upsell me on shipping, saying that if I did not upgrade, I would get "10-day delivery". I already knew from the site when I originally purchased the camera that I was looking at 5-7 days, and I wouldn't let him off the phone without recomfirming my delivery date, which turned out to be 5-7 days, of course.
I really hate this tactic, it makes me question the integrity of the site. Next time this happens, I'm just going to pretend to try to cancel the order, tell them I found it for cheaper elsewhere, and see if I can squeeze a discount out of these bloodsuckers.
