We had a garage sale yesterday. We place an ad in the Statesman Classifieds, put a few signs out, and listed it on craigslist.com. The result was a dozen or so zombies standing in the dark on our driveway waiting for us to open up for business at 7am. They tore through everything, making piles on our lawn to "protect" their selections from the rest of the horde. There was a lot of repeat business as someone who completed a purchase would return for more stuff. They were also very non-commital to their purchases: when there was a dispute over who had dibs on Caroline's bike, I though there might be a throwdown, but one lady gave up very quickly. "Hey, I was going to buy that bike!... ... ... but he can have it." We had some Japanese girls show up looking for some vintage duds (based on what they were wearing), and one girl proceeded to take 50 pictures of the event. I have a feeling we are going to be the subject of jokes back in Japan.
It'll be worth it, though. We cleared about $300 and unloaded a bunch of junk.
